Update Well Due 3-25-2010

Since my last post, we've planted many more seedlings, and the others have grown up a lot more. Daddy also built a cold frame, but that will have to go to the next post as it is dark right now. Here are some pictures of our indoor seedlings and plants.

Tomato forest. This is 27/30 of them.

These are pansy seedlings. They sprouted 6 weeks after we planted them.


An African violet Oma gave to us. It's blooming now!


Basil, transplanted.


Marigold. It did turn out to be a marigold, after all. "It's got the purple stem, see?" - Ambrose

Geranium seedlings!


Parsley. Ambrose transplanted them into yogurt containers about 2 weeks ago. Now they're happy and big.


Here are the peppers. They finally sprouted, and now they're pretty big. There was a third, but it died, because the seed didn't fall off of it.


Coleus seedling. This is the only one that survived a drop.


Leeks! These were planted on Feb 9.


Fuschia cuttings. We put them into florist's foam and put them in water. Now they have roots!
More transplanted basil.


Begonia cuttings. I just planted them just like African violets. The one on the left seems to have taken hold. That second leaf was a tiny bud when I planted the cuttings.


More, newer marigold seedlings.


The whole shebang. The bottom tray with 10 capsules per section is Stella's petunias. They have sprouted:

Here are some more pictures; some are of different/new plants, others are updates of previous plants.

I am wintering several plants in the basement. The temperature down there averages 48 F.
These are half of my geraniums. I pulled them from outside at the last minute in the end of October. The next weekend we had a hard frost.

We are also propagating some African Violet leaves from Oma's violets. (They were picked in January.) The brown spots are sunburn. We put them in some African Violet soil that we got and sprayed them to keep them wet.


Here is our seedling setup at the top of the stairs. We put it there because it was warmer than the basement, and it is hidden behind the stair door. I put in some shelves and hung lights on top. There is a light and another shelf beneath, but we aren't using it yet. I probably will pretty soon. That lightbulb underneath is for heat.


The radishes are now growing second leaves (true ones, very small under the big seedling leaves.) I planted all my seedlings in 3 parts soil, 2 parts peat.


Tomatoes are happy. :)


The big one was the first sprouted. (It should be transplanted soon.)

I planted these lettuce seedlings 5 days ago. I think there are too much. They grow way too fast for me to keep up. :)

Daddy, Ambrose and I have all planted seeds 1-2 weeks ago and now some are coming up:

Chase the sun! (Planted 5-7 days ago.)

Me: Weed or marigold? Ambrose: Definitely Marigold. See? It's got the purple stem! (Planted 1 week ago.)

Ambrose's happy parsley seedlings, planted 4 weeks ago

4 oregano seedlings, planted 4 weeks ago. They're tiny!

Radish, planted 9 days ago. They grow fast.

Tomato, 10 days ago. Daddy and I have a race started to get the first tomatoes of the year. (His are the far left container in the top picture.)

Begonia cuttings - some are happy and others aren't. (Started 4 days ago.)

Fuchsia cuttings, started 1.5 weeks ago. They were really happy from the start.

And Daddy's leeks, which started this blog - planted 2 weeks ago. We could swear we saw one growing!
