Babies Update and More New Babies!

The bunnies have now opened their eyes and Ambrose has been taking them upstairs to take pictures and get a little exercise!
"I see camera. Hmmmm... Is it good to nibble on?"

There are 7 bunnies -- 3 blue and 4 black.

We also got lambs yesterday! They're Suffolk lambs - mainly bred for the market. They produce excellent meat. We are going to feed them on a high protein diet so they will produce a lot of red meat and less fat. We took them home on our trailer and while moving them into our pen, one of them escaped. The one that escaped we had named Ricky because he behaves just like our dog did. They are now all safe in our pen!

Update 4-08-11

I think spring has finally won the battle against winter here. We started turning over soil and pulling out some more sod.

Tree buds are coming out!

Update 04-05-11

Time to bring the blog back to life!
Last week Ambrose planted tomatoes.
They've sprouted now.

This week I planted cabbage, kale, tomatoes, and peppers. The kale is already coming up.

As is the cabbage.

New Babies

3 weeks ago we got baby chickens through 4-H. 4-H allows first time project members to get a free animal related to the project that the member signed up for. We were lucky and got 4 of each type instead of 2. We got Rhode Island Reds and Silver Laced Wyandottes.
Baby Rhode Island Red.

3 week old chickens.

2 weeks ago we got baby ducks through the same program.
"I need to get out of here."

The ducks are a lot messier than chickens. They like to play in their water. They also are very "flockish" as opposed to chickens, who are rather independent at times.

And last week, Ambrose's bunny had baby bunnies!

2 day old bunnies.

5 day old bunnies!
